An Inner Approach to Stress

Cosmic Consciousness

Cosmic Consciousness (Photo credit: Rainbow Gryphon)

Our five senses draw our attention to the outer physical world. When we have a predominately outer directed focus we look for our inner needs to be filled through material sources. This is usually a short lived and unsatisfying solution. This orientation also tends to lead to blame, criticism, judgments, and compulsivity (repetitive behaviors expecting a different outcome).

Being outwardly directed tends to produce reliance on a spiritual being external to ourselves. We beseech this Greater Being to bestow favors upon us –and we continue to define ourselves through the physical, roles and material possessions. This way of being is one of limited consciousness. Paradoxically, it is a mind set that both begins and ends in fear. An outer focus leaves us up one day down the next with no center to hold on to.

Life is change. Consciousness that is attached to the outer world does not help us to move with the cycles of change. In addition, it does not help us to increase our capacity to function in the world in a meaningful way that leads to peace, joy & happiness.

Our sixth sense draws our attention inward and assists us to truly find the means to resolve issues, release struggle and longing and receive the true fulfillment of our deepest desires. This inner path allows us to examine thoughts, feelings and beliefs that lead to problems. It opens the way to creative problem solving. Expanding our consciousness beyond the physical and material world awakens you to who you truly are. From there you can transcend limitations, expand creative ability, and step into true power, tolerance, understanding and vitality.

Proper alignment and attunement of the energies of body, mind and spirit provides us with a clear and present awareness. This awareness allows you to know what is good for you, as well as to attract to you those things that assist you to be happy and healthy.

You can become more conscious of what robs you of your natural healthy state and eliminate the sources of your struggles. Instead of learning just another technique or take on another method of learning that feels like a burden, you can identify the roots of your reactions and difficulties and change them permanently.

One of the things I especially like about becoming attuned to our personal energy is that it helps to bring us into a mindful, “present moment space” where we can develop a new relationship with our bodies and minds to create health and happiness from the inside out! Energy work also helps to bring balance to life, and allows purpose, meaning and wisdom to emerge from within–the only place it can truly come from!  Learning to be more in touch with your personal energy can also aid you in riding the waves of life more gracefully. We have an innate capacity for joy, pleasure, harmony and a balanced spiritual toughness that goes largely untapped. These inner capabilities can help us to find pleasure in everyday life.

As a culture it seems that we are grappling with yearning for deeper meaning and that can only really emerge through deeper connection within ourselves, to each other and the world. Learning to quiet our minds, make friends with our inner world through energy and consciousness provides the means and the path.

Intuition and Soul-Full Living

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

pace5 “When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi

Through developing our inner selves and learning to connect with our authentic nature, our higher self or soul, we move into a resilient, coherent energy flow that affects all aspects of life in a strong and positive way.

Our energy system is the means through which we contact and receive information regarding people, places and things. Our inner self or higher nature communicates through this system. It has been called intuition, instinct, a hunch, or the small still voice within. We have the possibility for constant access to this aspect of ourselves and the information it is communicating, but we tend to not understand it, ignore or discount it.

Unexplainable emotional reactions to people and events, half formed or inexplicable feelings or hunches are all ways that our psyche is trying to inform us about the true nature of our interactions. Our thoughts, wishes, desires and attitudes are all also a part of this mix. This can make it tricky to sort out what message is coming from which source. Making friends with this aspect of our being and understanding its language …learning to clear, balance and attune to our energy are all effective ways to be more fully informed about the reality of our lives. In addition, this way of knowing that is available to us can help us make better informed choices, avoid unnecessary problems and experience more of the beauty and wonder of life.

How does your soul self, your intuition speak to you? Do you make time to listen? Do you follow your deep inner knowing? What kind of relationship do you cultivate with it?

Energy and Authenticity

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

“In this way, without any intent to shape others, we simply have to be authentic, and a sense of mana, of spiritual light and warmth will emanate from our very souls, causing others to grow — not towards us, but towards the light that moves through us.” Mark Nepo, The Energy of Being Real.   http://www.ijourney.org/?tid=563 .

When we are authentically ourselves we enter a flow and strong vibrant energy courses through us providing the possibility of just being. Our culture has taught us so many things about roles, false faces, what we should feel and want that we have lost touch with this more natural and authentic way of being.

When we shed the shoulds, coulds, oughts and mights and simply let ourselves be, there is an energy, an aliveness, a rightness about it that can lead us to all that we typically look outward for.

Have you had a moment where you felt that flow? How can you bring more of it into your life?

“2012: Time for Change”: Why and How?

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

pace13 There have been many prophecies concerning this year, 2012. If we go beyond the hype and hysteria to the deeper wisdom available to us in some of these messages then the way through this time is clear.

The way that is being pointed to is one where we begin to take seriously the notion that we are all part of the cosmic whole and affect each other and our environment.  Another is that our world is a mirror of our inner state. These are powerful beginning thoughts, but not the end of the message.  We are also counseled that it is through developing the skills of greater awareness, higher consciousness and creativity that our problems, personal and global, can be solved.

History and Perspective
Humanity has been through many difficult and challenging periods throughout history. This is ours. It is hard. It is difficult. It is frightening. But one thing that keeps coming to mind is that fact that we are still here after many challenges that were extremely difficult for those who came before us.

It can be useful to look to the past for information regarding change and methods to restore balance; however it is important to remember that we also have unique issues and circumstances in these current times. So change may have to take on a new face. We may need methods, skills and abilities that were not necessary or present in the past.

Nature can provide wise guidance. When something necessary is not present in nature, organisms adapt and transform in order to acclimate to their new environment. And so it is with us. We can turn to the development of our energy and multi-sensory nature (higher consciousness) in order to tap into greater creativity, inspiration, and problem solving. This development not only helps us to tap into those faculties that will help us create solutions, it also helps us deal with the stress of change and enhance our mental, emotional and physical health and well- being.

Individuals Matter
The question is not really whether we will change or not. The question is more one of how much struggle and conflict will we go through before we shift toward what is necessary. Politicians and government may not be the greatest change agents in these times. It may be “We the people”. If that phrase sounds familiar, it is because it was part of an original intention for this country set up by men of transcendental persuasion. Another man who had a message we can all use now was Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Perhaps it is time to take that sentence seriously and to each do our part in our corner of the planet to bring about healthy, positive change.

A Simple Shift
Shifting into higher frequencies of energy that facilitate higher consciousness, new perspectives, openness to creativity and enhancement of resiliency can be done in many ways. We have so many options open to us today. Individual healing work, release of old patterns and beliefs and learning new skills to engage energy and consciousness are a few ways to approach such a shift. It can be a fun and exciting adventure into a new way of being if you take it a piece at a time.

A very simple means at an individual level is to begin to focus on feelings of gratitude. Feelings of gratitude, appreciation, beauty and love have been proven to positively affect every aspect of our being. Gratitude can be a beautiful practice that helps to enliven your day, create change and help deepen your connection with yourself, the sacred and your world.

Gratitude for what? For being alive. For living at all! Gratitude for the Earth, the ocean and mountains. Gratitude for all that nature shows us each and every day about life and living. Gratitude that we can begin to listen with new ears and see with new eyes. Gratitude that we indeed can become the change we wish to see in the world.

Synchronicity?
After I wrote this post I had a friend (who had no idea I was writing this) suggested a movie to me, 2012: Time for Change, http://youtu.be/QLKscdnBckU. It is a documentary by Daniel Pinchbeck of Reality Sandwich, www.realitysandwich.com.  In it he travels around the world visiting many diverse cultures and communities. I was struck by the magnitude of the ingenuity of people, as well as the many examples of creativity and community that demonstrate beneficial adjustment and adaptation that is beneficial to life on the planet for all. In my opinion, this film is not only inspirational and hopeful, but it also provides tangible evidence of humanity’s exquisite potential for flourishing.

There is a way of breathing that’s a shame and suffocation. And there’s another way of expiring, a love-breath that lets you open infinitely. – Rumi

How are you breathing, thinking, feeling today that is shaping your world?

Present moment awareness within a “love-breath” can help you move through your day with more peace, stillness and joy than you may create otherwise

3 Tips for Increasing Happiness

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

pace15 Happiness is a particular quality of energy. The state of our energy fields contributes to our ability to experience happiness. The state of the entire energy system contributes to our capacity for happiness but it is the Solar Plexus and the Heart Chakras that are most connected to our experience of happiness.

We can work with both our minds and our energy system to produce more happiness.  True happiness is a state of being that arises from within in response to how we are experiencing a present moment. This happiness is different from the externally triggered, excited kind of feeling that we generally associated with the word happiness.

Without specific practices our lower mind reigns over our habitual mental and emotional states. Our usual level of consciousness is not the province of the deeply satisfying states that put us in touch with our soul, the sacred and the wisdom of living. Our minds need to be trained to access these states. We can begin by learning how to choose happiness.

We can cultivate the energy of happiness :

1. Choose to find what is good today and focus on the good feeling

2. Make it a daily practice to engage in some activities that build and support feeling happy

3. Keep a happiness journal and record what made you happy today-it helps build the feeling/energy/chemistry

We can make happiness a habit! A happiness practice flows positive healing energy throughout your body-mind contributing to a strong foundation for health. It also provides a springboard for  further growth in consciousness helping us to become steeped in wisdom, love and a deep connection with life itself.

Your Dreams: Messengers of Soul, Purpose and Possibility

Dreams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.” John Updike

At times I have questioned my dreams and visions, wondering if they are “legitimate” pursuits or wool gathering! Then I came to realize that my dreams come from deep within me… from a soulful aspect that is uniquely me. Others do not dream my dreams, nor I theirs.

Our passion speaks to us through our dreams and visions. They are unique expressions of our souls longing to be birthed into this manifest reality.

What is your dream, your passion?

Are you listening deeply and remaining open to what your soul longs to help you with?

Are you making time for that very best of friends who travels your whole life with you?

Making time for the silence through which our soul speaks is one way we honor our soul, as well as how living energy works more easily…allowing us to enter the flow and embody it more fully. Taking time to be quiet, to ask questions, to remain open to answers from deeper wells of consciousness, makes space for your soul to show itself to you.

Be kind to yourself: open space for the full force of your uniqueness to flow through and join you in your dance with life.

Do You Really Choose Peace?

Peace, Love and Increase

Peace, Love and Increase (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Which world will you live in today? The one that tempts you to enter and create through negative thoughts, fear and doubt or the  one that quietly beckons you toward peace, love, happiness and joy?

Commit just for today to gently watch your inner world and softly shift it each time a negative or fear filled thought or feeling arises. Breathe, let go, choose love, appreciation, gratitude—just for one moment and then the next and the next.

Commit to building a resonance of inner  peace and happiness through each moment, just for today. Decide to paint an inner landscape of hope, love, peace and ease—-breathe, let go into a world that YOU choose.
