Change Comes From the Heart

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

pace16 Everything that I have been studying and reading lately reinforces how change must come from the heart. Inner peace, health and wellness, life balance, job satisfaction, meaningful relationships, prosperity and much more … everything really … is in relationship to the subtle energy of your heart, the energy that you hold subconsciously, below the surface. As you heal your heart, your frequency shifts and things begin to fall into place more easily.  All of this is an inside job and no one can do it for us. It is a life-long process. The Healing Code by Alex Loyd and Ben Johnson brought much of this together for me. It’s another method to release our blocks and improve our lives. Check it out, along with some of our Living Energy programs. It doesn’t matter where you begin. Different methods work for different people. What is important is that you make each day better or a little lighter for yourself than the previous one, regardless of what is transpiring on the outside. What can you do today to lighten up? One step forward is enough.

Energy Excess/Deficiency

Our energy is our power.  Dissipating it or binding it in negativity renders us powerless.

So, to cope with stress we are inclined to increase, decrease or freeze our energy. An increase or excess of energy to cope is manifested as a pattern of overcompensation for fear or weakness.  We see this in individuals who dominate situations and people. On the surface this may look like a powerful approach.  However, internally the excessive energy required to accomplish this behavioral style tends to become stagnate and create a health problem for the individual in whatever area of the body the excess has accumulated.

A decrease in energy or a freezing response is manifested in withdrawal in order to avoid conflict or challenge.  This deficient energy state results in a feeling of being unable to cope, or have what it takes to work through situations, hence retreat is chosen. Unfortunately this often has the consequence of reinforcing the original state and the person experiences even more of a sense of emptiness, restriction, and uselessness.

How can we know how we are managing this invisible inner resource?  Our bodies and habits give us clues.  Behavior is an outward manifestation of how we are managing energy but the shape our body takes as well as in how we carry ourselves also gives us evidence of how we are managing energy.  Pay attention to how you carry your body.  How do you stand, sit and walk?  Do you stand tall or do you hunch over or inward? Do you breathe deep from your belly or shallow from the top of your lungs.  Perhaps you don’t even notice.

It may feel daunting at first to begin to see yourself and others through the eyes of energy.  It is a wonderful way to learn more though.  As we have said many times in these articles…it is all really good news.  This broader/deeper awareness gives us new and often more efficient ways to effect change.  Our energy systems are highly responsive to change and there are a wide variety of approaches that can be used for transformation.  This is truly preventative action.

One way to strengthen yourself and your own energy system is to pay attention to your breathing.  Tune in and notice how you breathe.  Do you breathe fast or slow?  Shallow or deep?  Long breaths or short?  Stop reading and take a long deep breath right now.  Breathe deeply and slowly.  Hold it for a few seconds then release it very slowly.  Do this again.  Do you notice a shift in how you feel?  This is an excellent technique to use whenever you are feeling stressed or fearful, tired or depleted.  It’s a useful technique to begin yourself into a clear and balanced state.

Three techniques that help you to release blocked or stagnant energy within your body stress are the Emotional Freedom and Healing Technique, Emotional Freedom Technique and Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) SM.  These techniques use a combination of using light pressure to hold or rub specific acupressure points on your body, saying a series of statements about a topic that you are working to release and deep breathing.  These are very focused and easy ways to help you manage your energy system and improve your health.  A trained facilitator can guide you through these in person or even over the telephone.  We’ll describe these in more detail in a future column.

As always, it is important to work with methods that feel comfortable to you.  It is also essential to remember that different methods may work at different times in your process, so remain open to experimenting and allowing your intuition to guide you.  Trust your feelings –this is a crucial component to your health and personal development!

Resonance, Frequency and Vibration for Stress Reduction

Friday, September 17th, 2010

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.”   Nikola Tesla, Inventor

Our feelings have resonance/frequency/vibration. We have a choice to resonate at frequencies that feel good (those based on Love) or those that feel bad (those based on fear).

Most peoples’ feelings are on automatic. They do not realize how much power they have to change their internal state AND affect their external world.

We can take charge of our feelings:

1. Acknowledge and process negative, fearful ones ASAP–denial is not helpful! We all have negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs–even once enlightened! The challenge is to become a Master and not let them dominate you and determine your experience.

2. Once you have moved through the negative and bade it farewell, then let good feelings flow so that you maintain a more steady stream of “feel good”.

This process is a challenge and there is a learning curve to be sure. Perhaps a useful question can help serve as a reminder as you go through the day: What kind of world would you rather live in—one based on lovingkindness or one based in fear?

Acceptance as Stress Management

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Acceptance is one of those feelings that are grossly misunderstood. Many think that adopting an attitude of acceptance means passivity or the condoning of violent or malicious acts. Th is not the case. Acceptance merely means to acknowledge a given situation ‘as is’ and stop experiencing feelings of resistance that only cause you to feel stressed. This allows you to remain engaged in life without uselessly forcing your own agenda. Instead of using precious energy to resist or fight in vain, you are open to many more possible and potent outcomes. It is truly amazing to watch what happens when you truly embrace acceptance… perhaps the most amazing thing is that so many problems simply fall away!

Practicing acceptance can be a powerful stress management tool!

Manage Stress by Cultivating Creative Power

Friday, August 13th, 2010

There are many ways to reduce and manage stress. I find it gets exhausting if I am always focused on trying to fight it, or conquor it.  A very powerful approach that has really helped me to have a healthier attitude and approach to stress is to side step the idea of combating it and rather learn ways to open to a fundamental flow of creative energy and develop it. This provides a deep well spring from which to engage and build on practices that are more life enhancing and revitalizing.

The I Ching, the oldest book of China, of the Book of Change gives us some guidance regarding this approach.  The I Ching is an observation of human behavior and the constantly changing structure of the universe.  It is about the way things are at the moment and the way that they tend to change and transform themselves.  A basic premise is that there are no isolated actions.  Every action has a reaction and every thing affects every other thingin a synchronistic manner.  The observation of patterns in nature can help us adopt an attitude of flow in order to move more gracefully, consciously and purposefully through change and challenging times.

Sixty-four different life situations (also called hexagrams) are highlighted in the I Ching.  The first of these is called The Creative.  It is about how worthwhile goals will meet with success.  When you use your inspiration, energy, will and personal strength — your Creative Power —  you can catapult yourself into new situations and use your opportunities to your best advantage.  The Creative is a time when personal growth is accelerated.  You focus and become aware of the situations around you. You learn when to act and when not to act.  It is a time when people may look to you for leadership.  You act for your highest good and you meet with success.

You can make room for the energy referred to as The Creativeto develop within you and learn to live more from this place rather than being in a combative relationship with life and its stress.

 How? More on this tomorrow!

Present Moment Awareness: Help for Self, Help for Others

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

Current world events make us aware of how compelling it can be to feel overwhelmed, angry, or in conflict.  It becomes easy to blame others.  Allowing these mental or emotional states to take hold really does nothing for us. At best they can propel us toward some action that may be helpful but for most people it perpetuates an energy state that creates inner turmoil, stress and mental, emotional and physical weakness.

At first glance it can seem uncaring to focus on shifting to a higher state of consciousness when so many are suffering so much. But we may ask, ‘how does it serve another to feel as downtrodden, sad, or grief stricken as they do’? We can only help others if we work at keeping ourselves strong and healthy. It is then we can help to raise them in whatever way is appropriate or possible.

So we need to do what we can in terms of donations of time, money or service to those in need, but we also need to be aware of our mental and emotional states. It is easy to become caught in emotional loops and fool yourself into thinking it is the same as or part of participating, caring or helping.

We can practice living more in the present moment through becoming aware of our troublesome thoughts and emotions, clearing them, achieving more neutrality and thus being freer to cultivate higher level states of BE-ing. Centering within yourself helps to build strong energy that fosters clear thinking and honest emotion. In is only from your “nowness” you can truly be of help to others.
