The Dance of Energy

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Life is an intimate ongoing dance between our personal energy and that of the universe. Science is now affirming what philosophers and sages have been telling us for centuries. We live in a participatory universe. What we do, and how we think, feel, and believe all have an energetic reality. This energetic reality not only impacts us but also others and the planet itself.

The Energy of Creativity

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Yesterday on our radio show we spoke with Haya Leah Molnar, author of Under a Red Sky , about her book, early childhood experiences in a communist country, and about how early life experience helps to shape one’s connection to innate creative abilities.

As Ms. Molnar’s story unfolds it is clear that her family experience was one that supported her creative development in spite of the difficult circumstances in the broader environment.  The love, acceptance and support of her family, as well as their own deep connection to their own creativity, bathed her in a web of energy that encouraged the unfolding of her gifts.

Others may not have been so fortunate as to have the kind of openness, care and nurture of their creative spirit as Haya Molnar.  However that does not mean that creativity is lost to them. Each of us has an innate creative capacity. We may not think of our particular abilities as being creative if they do not follow the traditional expressions of art forms. Nevertheless we do possess this capacity. For many the flow of that energy may have been shut off or constricted due to family messages, neglect or simple lack of awareness.

The good news is that we can all recover, reconnect and enliven the creative flow within us. Working directly with our energy system provides us with the means to do just that. First, we must understand that energy system and have the methods to be able to heal any damage, strengthen our connection with our inner flow and learn how to effectively direct that flow of energy.

Here is a brief excerpt from Chakras and Feng Shui: Balancing Inner and Outer Energy that helps to explain how disruptions in our energy field result in a breakdown in our life function and experience.

The seven major chakras each contribute a layer of energy to what is commonly known as the human aura. Each of the chakras is responsible for a particular physical, psychological, and spiritual aspect of our functioning. They also seem to operate as encoding or storage devices for our life history.

When any one energy center is disrupted or damaged, that aspect of the field’s frequency is affected resulting in a disturbance of energy. These disturbances can be transmitted to other layers of the field, causing them to malfunction as well. Disruptions cause the equivalent of leaks, improper flow, and obstruction of energy in what should be a free flowing system. The result is that the energy field weakens and fatigue sets in. Over time, this weakening can cause mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical dysfunction. These distortions in the field prevent us from radiating our potential fully and completely. They prevent an experience of ourselves as whole and healthy, and compromise our capacity to relate positively to others.

Recording History

We have all been exposed to a variety of negative emotional states in our lives: fear, pain, anger, and trauma. Often, when we experience these powerful emotions, we are too threatened or overwhelmed to fully process them.

When we experience stress or a threat, real or imagined, the flow of energy increases to prepare us for fight or flight. If neither is possible or chosen, we override these impulses, even though the body has been energized. Repetition of this type of situation results in living with an energetic contradiction of activation and inhibition. This results in a frozen intensity known as “tonic immobility” or the “freezing response.”

Since we are unaware of our inner processes, we tend to believe that once an event has passed, it is over and has no further impact or influence over us. Unfortunately, this is not the case physiologically. Our responses to life are continually registered within our energy system.

When we are not able to release or discharge energy that has become activated, a portion of our being becomes locked inside, and future free expression of that energy is inhibited. Coping strategies that were meant only to help us in these acute, stressful events develop into chronic patterns anchored in the psyche and body. These holding patterns shape our energy, create body armor, and ultimately break down our emotional and/or physical health.

Understanding when and how we respond with unhealthy patterns enables us to minimize their effects. We then can adopt methods that build positive energy, leaving behind overwhelming feelings and a sense of emptiness. Traditional methods of change focus on insight and behavior, and generally fail to release problems at their core. Methods that allow our conscious mind to connect with a deeper organizing level of awareness can help to effectively discharge our troublesome patterns. It is then that we have a “complete experience” that results in increased energy and clearer awareness to bring to our lives. Our true nature or pure consciousness is our mind without distortions, misperceptions, or defenses. Through freeing ourselves of old limitations, we move more toward that state, and develop greater power to consciously create our lives.

Building a healthy foundation of strong, positive energy allows us to manage difficult life events with more ease and less distress. Learning to transform harmful patterns allows us to live in the present with abundant energy available to consciously channel toward increased peace, joy, health, and happiness.

Feng Shui

Feng shui is the practice of living in harmony with nature. Chi is one of the key aspects of feng shui. Chi is energy. Three principles of chi are that: everything is alive, everything is connected, and everything is always changing.

From a feng shui perspective, your environment mirrors your inner self. Your body is influenced by the chi of your environment and vice versa. Observing and understanding the patterns within and around you is a first step to bringing about change.

Vibrational patterns in your environment are created by many different variables. As you listen and read through this program you will become more aware of some of these.

Everything is Energy

For thousands of years people have known that everything is energy. In Feng Shui we study the I Ching (pronounced “ee- jing”), one of the oldest books from China. This book is also called the Book of Changes. It is about the continual changes in the Universe. It is about living in harmony and balance with nature. It is about action and reaction. It is about going with the flow and what happens when you don’t. Three laws of nature that humans share with all species and the earth in general are (1) we are alive, (2) we are connected and (3) we are always changing. We are deeply connected to the earth and all animal and plant life around us. We have gotten out of balance with nature and now realize how integral this relationship is to our well-being. One way we are connected to other people and living beings is through the power of thought. Have you ever had a thought, only to find someone close to you had the same or similar thought? Thought is energy. To understand our collective thought or mass consciousness, look at what appears in the news and what grabs our focus or attention every day. These thoughts have energy. The energy increases as the thoughts are fed. As the thoughts are fed, they are given more power. As they are given power, they become real or the “truth” as we know it. And the story goes on.

 Energy takes many forms

The energy of the universe takes many forms and has many layers, and so do WE. If we are to become all we can be, with the ability to channel and shape our life force for the greatest benefit, then it is necessary to have a working knowledge of the hardware and the software of our Selves.

We have all heard “knowledge is power,” and nowhere is that more true than when we are speaking about ourselves and the lives we create. Self-knowledge includes understanding how we work as human beings as well as how we have personally operated up until now to construct our lives.

That brings us to Self-awareness. Self-awareness includes the ability to observe oneself, but the way we are using the term implies even more than that. We share the view that each of us is in the world to bring more of our spiritual nature into human form – to become more of our authentic Selves and grow past the small identity that may have served us well until now but no longer does.

We live in a time that necessitates living in new ways … a time that requires us to rise to challenges from a different perspective than in the past so we can live lives that are more nurturing, satisfying, fulfilling, abundant and prosperous in every way.

To us, the term Self-awareness includes a knowing beyond observation of our patterns of thought, feeling and action. It describes a presence of “I AMNESS” that is beyond the average thought, feeling or sensation of human experience. It is the direct awareness of our spiritual nature.

In this work we are addressing moving from the lower mind controlled by the ego and its self-protective – but often mistaken – ideas and beliefs to a level of BEING that embodies more of your spiritual essence … your soul nature. This is the place where we embrace our full potential and engage the power of our authentic Selves.

There is an art and science involved in this opening to the authentic Self. The way has been laid out for us through the millennia, but now we have the additional benefit of research in Mind-Body Medicine and Energy Psychology, as well as Quantum Physics, documenting age-old wisdom and providing important information to help speed us along on this exciting adventure of discovery.

The beginning of the journey to your authentic self necessarily includes a working knowledge of the mind, as it is the vehicle that transports us for a portion of our journey. Our mind is not only an operating system; it is also where many of our obstacles lie. To understand the mind’s structure and have a working knowledge of its functions can help smooth our way as we seek to create change in our lives.

In session two we will be discussing the three levels of mind and how to use each of them appropriately. If we are to bring our best selves to light, then it is necessary to have the knowledge, skills and ability to manage our basic operating systems so they work for us rather than be left to default patterns that can upset our best efforts at creating a life we love to live.
