“2012: Time for Change”: Why and How?

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

pace13 There have been many prophecies concerning this year, 2012. If we go beyond the hype and hysteria to the deeper wisdom available to us in some of these messages then the way through this time is clear.

The way that is being pointed to is one where we begin to take seriously the notion that we are all part of the cosmic whole and affect each other and our environment.  Another is that our world is a mirror of our inner state. These are powerful beginning thoughts, but not the end of the message.  We are also counseled that it is through developing the skills of greater awareness, higher consciousness and creativity that our problems, personal and global, can be solved.

History and Perspective
Humanity has been through many difficult and challenging periods throughout history. This is ours. It is hard. It is difficult. It is frightening. But one thing that keeps coming to mind is that fact that we are still here after many challenges that were extremely difficult for those who came before us.

It can be useful to look to the past for information regarding change and methods to restore balance; however it is important to remember that we also have unique issues and circumstances in these current times. So change may have to take on a new face. We may need methods, skills and abilities that were not necessary or present in the past.

Nature can provide wise guidance. When something necessary is not present in nature, organisms adapt and transform in order to acclimate to their new environment. And so it is with us. We can turn to the development of our energy and multi-sensory nature (higher consciousness) in order to tap into greater creativity, inspiration, and problem solving. This development not only helps us to tap into those faculties that will help us create solutions, it also helps us deal with the stress of change and enhance our mental, emotional and physical health and well- being.

Individuals Matter
The question is not really whether we will change or not. The question is more one of how much struggle and conflict will we go through before we shift toward what is necessary. Politicians and government may not be the greatest change agents in these times. It may be “We the people”. If that phrase sounds familiar, it is because it was part of an original intention for this country set up by men of transcendental persuasion. Another man who had a message we can all use now was Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Perhaps it is time to take that sentence seriously and to each do our part in our corner of the planet to bring about healthy, positive change.

A Simple Shift
Shifting into higher frequencies of energy that facilitate higher consciousness, new perspectives, openness to creativity and enhancement of resiliency can be done in many ways. We have so many options open to us today. Individual healing work, release of old patterns and beliefs and learning new skills to engage energy and consciousness are a few ways to approach such a shift. It can be a fun and exciting adventure into a new way of being if you take it a piece at a time.

A very simple means at an individual level is to begin to focus on feelings of gratitude. Feelings of gratitude, appreciation, beauty and love have been proven to positively affect every aspect of our being. Gratitude can be a beautiful practice that helps to enliven your day, create change and help deepen your connection with yourself, the sacred and your world.

Gratitude for what? For being alive. For living at all! Gratitude for the Earth, the ocean and mountains. Gratitude for all that nature shows us each and every day about life and living. Gratitude that we can begin to listen with new ears and see with new eyes. Gratitude that we indeed can become the change we wish to see in the world.

Synchronicity?
After I wrote this post I had a friend (who had no idea I was writing this) suggested a movie to me, 2012: Time for Change, http://youtu.be/QLKscdnBckU. It is a documentary by Daniel Pinchbeck of Reality Sandwich, www.realitysandwich.com.  In it he travels around the world visiting many diverse cultures and communities. I was struck by the magnitude of the ingenuity of people, as well as the many examples of creativity and community that demonstrate beneficial adjustment and adaptation that is beneficial to life on the planet for all. In my opinion, this film is not only inspirational and hopeful, but it also provides tangible evidence of humanity’s exquisite potential for flourishing.

Are You Ready for Change?

Mark Borax’s Cosmic Weather Report for November is worth reading if you would like to gain a deeper understanding of our unprecedented times.

He articulates how the patterns and cycles of the past 40 years have moved into mainstream consciousness, with 57% of the USA supporting change.

He tells us why the time is right to step into our authentic selves, breaking free of past patterns that have kept us locked in place.

At minimum you may begin to understand your deeper self a little better and know that at times we have all been feeling a bit confused. It is part of the pattern.

Mark tells us that the next significant date of revolutionary social change is June 24, 2012. Hold on tight and ride the wave. You may find that moving forward is about going with the flow rather than fighting against it.

Can Compassion Help Lower Crime?

Is there a link between compassion and crime? As I listened to an NPR story about the drop in violent crime for the fourth consecutive year, I wondered if this is a reflection of society becoming more community-oriented, compassionate, caring and kind. I see more and more evidence of this every day every day. Yes, there are still those who don’t have a clue and continue to operate under old paradigms. Although such voices are loud, domineering and at times unbelievable, I am convinced that this is a dwindling population. As we withdraw our focus from what feels wrong and place our energy on what feels right, each of us will experience more of the inevitable shift in consciousness. It is a sign of our times.

Look around. “Doing good” is a growing movement. You will find ample evidence that people DO care about others. In my town a Fire Fighter grows fresh produce for our local food pantry and encourages others with gardens to drop off their extra produce so that those in need can eat fresh, seasonal vegetables. Our Helping Hands organization of volunteers provides those in need with things such as support for basic necessities, back to school clothes and school supplies, holiday food baskets, items that are ready to pass along (such as bikes) and more. Some people contribute money, some contribute items, some contribute time. Some people do all three. What’s going on in your family, community, or social network that is “doing good” for others?

Daily inspiration is readily available. The Good News Network is in its 15th year of providing good news to its internet readers. They provide inspiring stories of people doing the right thing world-wide. The Daily Good, another online resource, has been providing inspiration to its subscribers since 1998, almost as long. The mainstream media is also hopping on the bandwagon. Compared to prior years, more and more time and space is dedicated to human interest stories that encourage, stimulate interest, and inspire our spirit. These are just a few examples. I know that there are many more.

As we “do good” for others, I believe that each of us becomes more compassionate, caring and kind. Being part of the same human family, deep down we have similar needs and wants. What’s “out there” in the big, wide world is a reflection of what’s “inside,” closer to home, as reflected in our community, family, and individual consciousness. As we continue to shift and change for the better, the world around us will too.

One of the most effective ways to make a difference is to do “the work” on yourself. Consciously release your resistance to what “is”, accept things as they are, and change what you can. As you work with your own energy, the energy around you will shift as well. If you don’t believe it, just play with this concept. You will soon see evidence of your thoughts, feelings and beliefs playing out in front of you. Sometimes we are blind to this. As you tune in and observe what really shows up in your world each day, you may be delighted to realize how you, the observer, can change what is being observed. The world is one big mirror of our collective consciousness. We are all responsible for what is going on. You can begin by being more compassionate, caring and kind with yourself. Just do a little bit more every day. When you have a setback, accept it and begin again. Living your life this way can be a lot of fun and make a big difference in the world at large.

Our violent crime rate has dropped for four consecutive years. This is a good thing and each of us has contributed to it in one way or another. Maybe in 2012 we’ll see an even bigger jump. Let’s each BE the change we want to see in the world.

The Oil Spill, Transformation, Prophecy and Consciousness

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Here is a link to an excellent piece by Daniel Pinchbeck on the oil spill, our transitional times, opportunities and challenges, as well as some great comments on our power and collective transformation.

It is long but very thought provoking, eye opening, scary and hopeful if you read all the way to the last two paragraphs! Lots of food for thought in the comment section as well. What do YOU think?

Wisdom on the Way to 2012

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

“Venerating the past in itself will not solve the world’s problems. We need to find the link between our traditions and our present experience of life.

Nowness or the magic of the present moment, is what joins the wisdom of the past with the present.

When human beings lose their connection to nature, to heaven, to earth, then they do not know how to nurture their environment. Human beings destroy their ecology at the same time as they destroy one another.

From that perspective, healing our society goes hand in hand with healing our personal, elemental connection with the world.”

Chogyam Trungpa, “The sacred Path of the Warrior”

How are you doing developing your state of “nowness?”

Hello-Goodbye: The Energy of Our Times

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

We are all aware of our world changing at a rapid pace as the old collapses before us. This falling away of the old, even in the midst of anxiety and confusion, invites us to open to creativity and allow something new to emerge….hopefully something that is more enlivening, nourishing and sustainable that the old. That is up to us whether it will be or not…our emerging consciousness holds within it the awareness of our responsibility and capacity to manage energy and create.

In addition to the global shifts, we each are experiencing an invitation to be more conscious of the patterns in our lives that need to be let go of, reshaped, or modified. This can be painful at times but it is really the nly way that we can release what does not serve us, what deadens instead of enlivens and move forward with more peace, ease and personal freedom.

And not surprisingly, the Beatles have the soundtrack for this time in our lives!

2012: When Spirit Hits the Sidewalk!

Our radio show topic for the month of March has been on the changes associated with the year 2012 and how we can prepare and move forward in positive and effective ways to support our well-being.

This Monday we will be completing our series on this topic when we talk about

2012: When Spirit Hits the Sidewalk!

When Spirit Hits the Sidewalk!  What does this mean?

Broadly this phrase is referring to a shift in our spiritual focus from a separatist, isolated perspective to a more inclusive and integrated perspective.

More simply said, we are moving into a time where the nature of our spiritual being is becoming more a part of our everyday awareness and interaction with our world—the people, places and things we contact each day. This is both a challenge and a welcome opportunity to live our lives from a deeper and richer place within each of us and to connect in ways that enrich each one of us as well as our world.

We are in the process of moving from one paradigm to another in our world and this affects every area of life including the spiritual.

Some of the topics we will talk about on Monday are:

Masculine and Feminine Power and how they differ

How the shift in our view of power affects spirituality

What is integral spirituality?

How does the old model of spirituality differ in terms of goals and practice?

This show is prerecorded so there is no call in. You can access the show from our website, www.livingenergyworks.com or go directly to Blog Talk Radio at the link below.

2012: Changes in Personal Direction

Our radio show topic for the month of March is change associated with the year 2012 and how each of us can prepare and move forward in positive and effective ways to support overall well-being. This week  we will be talking about how the coming changes are challenging individuals and how those challenges can be managed more effectively…with some grace and ease!

During our March 1 program we talked in general about 2012 and many of the related myths.  Every aspect of the world is changing and we are all feeling it in different ways. How are the changes affecting you?  How are you feeling about your life in general? Are you feeling optimistic?  Do you feel you have some control over matters or are you feeling that whatever you do will not change anything?
