Peace of Mind

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

If being right is your goal,
you will find error in the world,
and seek to correct it.
But do not expect peace of mind.

If peace of mind is your goal,
look for the errors in your beliefs and expectations.
Seek to change them, not the world.
And be always prepared to be wrong.

Compassionate Choices

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Peg and I had a great conversation with Viki Kind this morning on the radio show.  Her book is truly incredible—I only wish I had had it at the start of my care-giving journey. A wonderful gift to ease the way, lighten the burden and help you feel confident in your decisions for loved ones.

The Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can’tguides families and healthcare professionals through the process of making decisions for those who are losing or have lost capacity to think.  Viki Kind has developed an adaptable system for making choices that comes as much from her heart as from her extensive experience as a bioethicist.  Readers will learn the framework and tools to create a good, ethical decision.  These tools will help give voice to those who can’t speak for themselves. The book provides specific strategies and questions to use along the decision making pathway.  This is not a one-size-fits-all solution but can be adapted depending on the individual’s level of incapacity and the situation. Throughout the book are personal and real-life stories to help illustrate these tools.  At the end of the book, Viki gives expanded end-of-life guidance for making the most difficult decisions.  Respect and compassion are the core values of this decision making process.

  • What tools, techniques and support are needed to make sure you are making the right decisions at the right time for all concerned?

Listen to our show on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at 10 A.M. as Vicki Kind joins us to discuss the answers to these questions and more.

Laughter: Great Stress Management

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Swami Beyondananda: “FUN-da-Mental Pointers

“1. Be a fundamentalist, make sure fun always comes before the mental. Realize that life is a situation comedy that will never be cancelled. A laugh track has been provided and the reason why we are put in the material world is to get more material. Have a good laughsitive twice a day and that will insure regularhilarity.

2. Remember that each of us has been given a special gift – just for entering. So you are already a winner!

3. The most powerful tool on the planet today is Tell-A-Vision. That is where I tell a vision to you and you tell a vision to me.

4. Life is like photography. You use the negative to develop.

5. As we go through life thinking heavy thoughts, thought particles tend to get caught between our ears, causing a condition called truth decay. So be sure to use your truth brush and mental floss twice a day. And when you’re tempted to practice tantrum yoga, remember what we teach in the Absurdiveness Training Class: “Don’t get even, get odd.”

6. If we want world peace, we must let go of our attachments and truly live like nomads. That’s where I no mad at you, you no mad at me. That way, there will surely be nomadness on the planet. And peace begins with each of us. A little peace here, a little peace there, pretty soon all the peaces will fit together to make one big peace everywhere.

7. I know great earth changes have been predicted for the future, so if you’re looking to avoid earthquakes, my advice is simple. When you find a fault, just don’t dwell on it.

8. There’s no need to change the world. All we have to do is toilet train the world, and we’ll never have to change it again.

9. Everything I have told you is channeled. That way, if you don’t like it, it’s not my fault. And remember, enlightenment is not a bureaucracy. You don’t have to go through channels.

10. Finally, if you’re looking to find the key to the universe, I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is – there is no key to the Universe. The good news is – it was never locked.”

Resonance, Frequency and Vibration for Stress Reduction

Friday, September 17th, 2010

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.”   Nikola Tesla, Inventor

Our feelings have resonance/frequency/vibration. We have a choice to resonate at frequencies that feel good (those based on Love) or those that feel bad (those based on fear).

Most peoples’ feelings are on automatic. They do not realize how much power they have to change their internal state AND affect their external world.

We can take charge of our feelings:

1. Acknowledge and process negative, fearful ones ASAP–denial is not helpful! We all have negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs–even once enlightened! The challenge is to become a Master and not let them dominate you and determine your experience.

2. Once you have moved through the negative and bade it farewell, then let good feelings flow so that you maintain a more steady stream of “feel good”.

This process is a challenge and there is a learning curve to be sure. Perhaps a useful question can help serve as a reminder as you go through the day: What kind of world would you rather live in—one based on lovingkindness or one based in fear?
