Do you have an abundance or a deficit of energy?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

There are many things in our daily lives that deplete our energy. Heat, artificial light, dissonant, loud or harsh sound, electricity, computers, and junk food are some examples. Those are all probably things that you really do know if you stop and think about it.

What is less well known is that stress, blocked negative emotions, unhealed emotional trauma, negative thinking, worry, fear, and negative or toxic interactions with others also unbalance our fields.

Examples of the latter are: people and situations that do not honor who you are, respect you, or contribute to your well being. Think about how you feel after being with someone who criticizes, belittles or berates you. You know it does not feel good but you may not have thought about it directly affecting your energy and therefore the whole of your being.

Here’s another situation that we all often find ourselves in—until we become more conscious! How do you feel when you find yourself doing something you really did not want to do, that was not in accord with who you are or where you wanted to be.  Have you ever gone along with someone or something and felt a sense of inner tension because you didn’t want to participate or you didn’t believe in what you were doing? We all have at one time or another. But when we begin to understand that these types of situations weaken and even distort our field, perhaps it becomes easier to choose more wisely, on our own behalf or at least self correct after the event. A weakened auric field leaks energy.  That is not healthy for us and ultimately not good for the others involved either.

The best way to protect ourselves in every aspect of our lives is to develop a strong vibrant energy field so we are not as vulnerable to negative or discordant energies. This involves commitment and practice as well as awareness regarding the choices we make each day.

Bring more awareness to your daily activities and interactions. Begin to notice how you feel in response to them. How you feel provides you with clues as to what is happening in your energy system. People, places, and practices that contribute to feelings of buoyancy, fullness, aliveness all help build and strengthen energy.

The state of your energy is reflected in the situations and circumstances of your life.

What are you noticing? Do you have a deficit or an abundance or an abundance of energy? What is dragging you down? What can you eliminate? What can you put in place to begin to build strong positive energy? What will it take for you to make a choice on your own behalf to care deeply for yourself in this way? What blocks you from making that choice?

Once we care for our own supplies and reserves of energy we can be more fully present to our lives, healthier, more successful and more helpful to others.

Building & Strengthening Energy

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Common sense methods help to build and strengthen our energy.  Sunlight, exercise, fresh air, healthy food, eating less and more frequently are all general approaches we can use to impact our energy in a positive way.  In addition, methods such as Aromatherapy, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and breathwork are more specific practices that contribute in a positive way to develop and fortify our energy. There are also many other tools and techniques you can learn and easily integrate into your life to restore and rejuvenate your energy.

Generally our energy is a product of genetics, food, environment and universal energy. Our modern way of life has become reliant on only food and respiration as an energy source. Digesting food and our typical methods of breathing are actually inefficient means of acquiring energy.

We have forgotten how to absorb energy directly into and through our energy field. Our vibratory frequency has lowered as a result. This is a strong contributor to our problems with stress, fatigue and illness. Stress impacts our system, but the converse is also true: when our energy is compromised we have a more difficult time responding to life in a strong and positive manner, displaying what has been labeled “stress hardiness”.

Consider the amount of energy you spend everyday. Then consider the amount you replenish through healthy relationships, food, activity, environment, deep relaxation and restorative practices (energy based practices). Do you think you have an abundance or a deficit?

When we do not care for our energy we deplete it from our stores. It is then that illness and problems can take hold. Just as our bodies get nourishment from food, so our auras can and need to receive nourishment.

Awareness of how we are mis-spending our energy is a first step to restoring and strengthening it. What are some ways that you could shift your habits to embrace more energy positive practices?

Clearing and Opening Your Energy System

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Being out in nature is a wonderful way to clear and cleanse, as well as to build our energy. In the winter months we are indoors more and lose a valuable means of cultivating healthy energy.  Sunlight, fresh air and contact with all the natural elements all help to increase and maintain energy especially if we are purposeful and attentive with the process. Make it a point to get outside when you can. In addition to helping our overall energy, walking outside in the early morning light has been found to be helpful in staving off seasonal affective disorder.

To have your time outside be most effective as it relates to your energy: be mindful of your body, your feet on the earth, how it feels to be in the present moment; from your inner center be aware of the air, the sun, the breeze blowing past you; feel drinking in the sun,, the air, the warmth.

In Tai Chi there is a wonderful movement to gather up chi of the morning and bring it into yourself.

As you move through your day periodically tune into yourself, intentionally feel spaciousness in your heart and you bathe yourself with love, peace, joy or gratitude. Not only will you benefit but those around you will “catch” your good feelings. This simple method helps to keep your energy strong, can protect you from stress, make for more meaningful interactions and help prevent fatigue.

We would enjoy hearing your comments on how this exercise affected your day!

The Art and Science of the Self-Part 2

All aspects of our Selves are important. Life is more enjoyable, balanced and fulfilling if we understand, appreciate and care for all our parts. This may seem like an obvious statement, but often we humans tend to over value one aspect and develop it to the exclusion of others. Each aspect of our Selves provides a different level of awareness, a facet of our wholeness, and a distinctive way to experience the world. When we embrace the whole of our being we develop greater mastery, have more skill and ability to live more fully, vibrantly and with more satisfaction and fulfillment.

Consciously developing and navigating our human energy system helps turn these concepts into reality. An energetic perspective regarding our selves and our lives opens the door to a deeper awareness concerning our true nature; it offers a broader lens to look through; provides more options for discovery, promoting health and healing, and developing higher level human capacities including creativity, intuition and spirituality.

For a moment imagine a free flow of energy sweeping through you like a river that is free to flow through the landscape. Feel what it would be like to BE this river, at first meandering, then rushing along more strongly, perhaps stopping to pool in a happy little eddy just for the joy of it, once again picking up speed as the current moves forward toward the future, exhilarated by the prospect of a new adventure around the next corner.  Feel how this river moves smoothly and evenly through a variety of landscapes shifting, moving, and shaping itself to navigate the terrain but never fighting, stopping or stagnating. Of course rivers do hit obstacles just as we do in life. But unlike the river we have choices, free will and the ability to not be at the mercy of the elements….if we know the appropriate skills to navigate the territory.

When our river of energy is negatively impacted by life, people, events, traumas or stresses, automatic reactions occur as mechanisms of protection and survival. Unfortunately these can then become a source of obstruction to the free flow of energy that would fully enliven us. If all of our energies are not fully charged, properly flowing and coherent, we can not meet the world with the full force of our being. Our view of the world and our place in it then tends toward negativity, limitation and feelings of deficiency. We may experience suffering and pain in our lives as a result of these ‘wounded’ energies reverberating through our being. The good news is that there is a lot we can do to remedy these situations.

In our next post we will begin to talk about the specifics of working with your personal energy system.

The Art and Science of the Self-Part 1

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

We are fortunate to live at a time in history when there is so much knowledge and so many well researched tools that can help us to realize more of our potential and improve our quality of life. The last few decades have brought many new discoveries and concepts regarding how to heal, expand consciousness, transform difficulties, rise to challenges and transcend our ‘lower nature’ and live more from our authentic selves. Quantum physics has corroborated the truth of the perennial philosophies and mystical traditions to give us both an art and a science of the Self.

As information increases and our awareness expands, we not only know more, but can do and BE more! This is not support for being busier or for taking on more and more activity or responsibility. In many ways it is just the opposite.  With deeper understanding and development of our energetic nature we actually can expand our capacity to live more fully but with less struggle, fewer burdens and more ease.

If we understand energetic principles, access our inborn natural capacities and use energetic skills, we can bring about change with less conflict and greater comfort. Often our attempts to change are approached from a stance of willpower, hard work and a forced focus on what to be or not to be. The world of energy provides ways to facilitate change more easily, to integrate new patterns and abilities more effortlessly so we can become that person we see in our mind and feel in our heart.
