Coherence, Energy and Attraction

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Coherence of our energy field helps us to feel better, be healthier and develop stronger abilities to create the circumstances of our lives. Coherence combined with intention is a powerful combination for attracting and creating more of what we DO want to show up for us.

Developing our power to let go of what doesn’t feel good is a large part of bringing our energy into coherence. Learning to let go is a challenging task. As with any learning in life, there is a learning curve. Please be patient with yourself. Generally speaking, the learning involved with all the concepts and tools presented in this program is part of a lifelong journey that can bring you continuously to deeper and broader levels of experience in many areas of your life.

Stop for a moment now and consider these questions….

Can you remember a time when you felt fearful or anxious and it helped you to be prepared?

Can you think about a time when you experienced fear or anxiety and it was not useful but became a feedback loop within your mind and emotions that kept you all churned up to no avail?

We know that it is healthier to let go of negative feelings and be more positive, and we can learn how to respond to situations from a higher perspective as we go through our lives. Often, though, we do not; because of mental and emotional conditioning that occurs during our lives, particularly during our youth. Conditions and experiences are registered in our energy fields and then become self-referencing feedback loops.

Learning skills that allow you to imprint in your physiology the FEELING of letting go moves the ideal from the realm of thought into the realm of reality and experience.

Five New Holiday Tips for Collapsing Stress

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Are you looking forward to spending time with family and friends?

You may have the power to simply change who you spend time with over the holidays. It may be just a case of awareness and choice. That situation is pretty easy to manage. The situations that are more complex and difficult are those that we feel we cannot change.  These situations usually involve our families. We all have them and all families present challenges.

Here’s an alternate way of being able to look at family stress that can help shift your experience and reduce your stress.

For a moment think about everything being energy. We are all individual packages of energy, the environment around us is energy and we interface with others through this energy field co-creating flow, or blocks and interference patterns. And most often we have a combination of those things.

In our families we have webs of energetic patterns that have been in place for a long time. Even if we have changed as a result of growing up and moving away, when we return to the fold we typically reenter the familial field and take on our old energetic roles.

This being the case, it is imperative for us to have some consciousness about ourselves and our roles in order to change our part of the family dance — in this way we free ourselves and can craft a different experience even if no one else changes. At the very least we can perhaps neutrally observe the familiar dance and that alone can reduce our stress.

You can shift the flow of energy within yourself and between you and others by noticing what is happening in your body during interactions. Notice where there is constriction and focus on opening it and creating more spaciousness.

Another way to create a more harmonious flow of energy is to experience gratitude and focus on feeling it instead of reacting negatively to people, places or things.

You can also think of one thing that you appreciate or enjoy so much that it is easy to feel good feelings as a result. Commit to using that as a trigger to shift your energy during gatherings where there may be stress.

When you are with a person who normally creates discomfort in you notice one thing about them that is admirable, healthy, or attractive—hold appreciation for that in your awareness and watch the interaction shift!

Living Energy: Thanks-Giving, A New Habit

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

At this time of the year we begin to turn our attention to the upcoming holidays and all that they mean. Of course there is the busyness, shopping and increased social commitments. But there is also a deeper current that flows through this time of year. It seems that many of us feel that current and yearn to connect with it as it seems to promise a more fulfilling state of being than the one we generally get caught up in during this time.

At the first of these holidays, Thanksgiving, our thoughts turn to menu planning, travel and seating arrangements, invitations and how to get it all done in the midst of an already busy life! The deeper feelings of gratitude and appreciation symbolized by this day get a passing nod in media hype, a brief grace said at the dinner table or in a lament about not having the time to pay attention to those aspects of life!  There are many reasons for this but perhaps the key issue is a lack of understanding regarding the real influence of these feelings and so they are relegated to the airy-fairy file.

Gratitude and appreciation are emotions, feeling states that have been studied at length and have been shown to profoundly impact our physical, spiritual and emotional health. When you experience them your heart rhythms change, your nervous system becomes more coherent and your whole physiology behaves differently—all in the direction of health and more efficient functioning. Why would you not want to engage in an activity that is so simple, pleasant and easy and promises to provide such benefit? There are no gym fees, heavy sweating or big chunks of time taken out of your schedule. It merely requires a desire to take charge of your own mind, learn how it functions and point it in the direction you wish instead of allowing it to run amok in its conditioned default patterns. The feelings of gratitude and appreciation set up a vibration within you that are worth the price of admission to make them the standard instead of a sometime event!

 So, how can you begin?

Simply by asking the right questions!

What do I have to be grateful for?

What in my life do I really appreciate?

Remember to think broadly. We live life moment by moment. The huge awards, recognitions, and ‘deals’ are not daily fare. To some they never come —and they may be the lucky ones as they may be more in touch with the deeper rhythms of life where there is more juice, feeling and connection to the real stuff of being human. That it not to say that material success  is wrong or to be turned away from, only that often too much attention in that direction can result in a disconnect within a person that leaves them empty, longing and entrenched in pretense rather than in the authenticity that leads to a sense of inner fulfillment.

So think about the moment….the warmth of the sun, the crispness of the air, the beauty of the sky. Where can you find beauty today? Where can you find the touch of peace? What do you see that warms your heart?

Before you go to sleep tonight identify five things that made you happy, feel complete or that you appreciated. Remember to count yourself things you value about YOU!

Use your memory to call up images of times when you felt grateful…play those over and over instead of the wouldas, couldas, shouldas that tend to rumble around in our minds!

Make placing your attention on gratitude a habit and you may begin to notice that a subtle inner peace is growing and has brought you “home for the holidays”!

5 Tips for Staying Stress Free

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Your energy system has a direct influence on your mind, body and spirit. It impacts your health, your moods, your outlook on life and much more. By tuning into your personal energy level throughout the day you will feel better and begin to develop a foundation for being able to expand your ability to manage, focus and channel your energy.

  1. Upon awakening, before you even get out of bed, notice how you feel. If you dreamt something that has a negative hangover effect, consciously release it. Use whatever means you can to accomplish this: EFT, breath-work, imagery and pivoting can help you shift your feelings.
  2. Choose you emotional state for the day. Yes, you can! Let yourself feel ease, peace, well being to whatever level you can and imagine flowing that good feeling out from your deep inner center into your day.
  3. As you move through the day notice what expands and opens you and make it a point to settle into these feelings. Appreciate and feel gratitude for all that is present that is adding to your life. (These feelings create very real biochemical and neuro-hormonal changes.)
  4. Notice what triggers negative feelings or thought patterns and consciously release them as best you can as they arise. At times there may be a need for more than you can manage in the moment. If the latter is the case, schedule time to do what you need to in order to collapse those patterns more thoroughly from your bodymind.
  5. As you notice what diminishes and drags you down can you also begin to think about how you can consciously make choices that eliminate those situations from your life. That may not be possible in all cases, but you may be able to let go of more than you realize. Over the longer term you can do what you can to build and strengthen your energy in order to more easily change de-energizing ways of reacting to the situations or people in your life that cannot be eliminated.

We would love to have you join us on our radio show on Diva Toolbox on Monday 11-23-09 @ 10 A.M. where our topic will be Practical Solutions for Holiday Stress. If you cannot make it at that time the show is aways recorded and you can access it from our link on Diva Toolbox.

Wisdom for Wednesday–and Everyday

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

From one of my favorite people, a wonderful statement on shifting from a feeling of powerlessness to one of empowerment.

“Who lives a life of joy? Who in this society knows the day to day thrill and privilege of being alive?”

These two questions can lead us all to a daily choice-

1. To let drop away all that blocks our experience of  life as a gift and privilege

2. To do what it takes for the energy of joy to find its free expression through our being.

Six Steps to Letting Go of fear

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Yesterday I was visiting my Dad at his nursing home (talk about fear—there’s a big one for those who may be :) aging– but that is a topic for another day), and the travel channel was on. The program airing was about a series of places where people go and things that they do to be scared to death!

It struck me that we have a paradox going on in our culture where we purposely put ourselves in danger so we can overcome it—or watch others do so–and we use every measure we can to avoid facing our internal fears. We distract ourselves, keep frantically busy, focus on others’ failings, get caught in compulsive or addictive behaviors, or tune out in some other creative way.

I think one of the reasons we avoid our inner landscape is that we are unaware of what is truly going on inside of us and another is that even if we are open to the notion of shifting our inner schema,  we may not know where to begin.

Before getting to the suggestions for changing fear from the inside out,  I need to say that I think facing great danger and possible extreme bodily injury can in fact be one way that a person can attempt to overcome deep fears or insecurities. Sometimes I think it can even seem preferable to wrestle a boa or hurtle down a gigantic sand dune complete with dangerous jumps than to face our own inner demons. However, in my opinion, the side effects or repercussions from taking that tactic seem a  little shaky in terms of a well thought out plan.

There is good news about facing our fears! Once we do they evaporate and open up a whole lot of space for our authentic selves to shine through–and no broken bones or viper venom to deal with—usually!

So what do you do in order to conquer fear?

1. Identify False Beliefs

Questioning how you perceive the world and challenging your beliefs can help begin the process of letting go of fear. It can feel tricky to sort out limiting beliefs because we have lived with them as truth for much of our lives.

Listening to your inner dialogue and challenging it, observing your habitual patterns and thinking more deeply about what they may be saying about you, and questioning what may be behind your reactive behaviors can all help to illuminate false beliefs. In 12 Keys for Life and Self Mastery we have a whole chapter on discovering limiting beliefs and what to do to remedy them. (shameless plug)

2. Ask yourself some new questions

What are you really afraid of?

What is the likelihood that it will happen?

How can you look at the issue differently?

What if you were free of your fear, what would you do?

3. Does staying stuck in your fear help you in some way?

Sometimes we are not willing to do what it takes or are afraid of the new responsibilities or roles that come with a deep change—it’s good to know that!

Some helpful questions:

How does this fear serve me, protect me, or help me maintain an identity?

What am I avoiding by not facing or moving through this fear?

Do I want to accept this way of being or move through the fear of change?

4. Identify the needs behind your fear

Our needs are not usually a problem. How we go about getting them met due to our unconsciousness is what trips us up. If you can be clear about what you need and seek positive means to fill those needs the negative can fall away.

5. Adopt a Perspective of Strength

Access inner states when you felt strong, able, confident and bring those feelings to the forefront of your awareness when seeking to face fear. When we are in fear our energy contracts and we feel weak and unable to cope. When we access strong internal states we can link those feelings to new situations and benefit throughout own inner resources—a deep feeling of trusting ourselves can be a side benefit here in addition to collapsing the fear.

You can also ask yourself  if there are new strengths that are trying to be born through the challenge of the fear you are facing. What new ability or quality is trying to be born in you? If this were the perfect situation to point you in a new direction, what would that be?

6. Use grounding and centering techniques on a regular basis

Quieting body and mind, centering and grounding your energy goes a long way to calming yourself and being able to employ some of the other methods mentioned here. It can also open you up to higher ways of knowing that can guide you on your journey to freedom from fear.

Fear like stress is a part of life. We do have the ability to conquer it, if we reach deep, open to new information and perhaps try some new approaches. Fear creates–easily and readily given the intensity of its grip. We need to become aware and more conscious within ourselves to gain our freedom and thus be better able to create what we do want in our lives.
