Perspective by unAsleep

A one minute video from IONS that reminds us all of where Truth lies…

Perspective is the key to gaining a larger understanding of ourselves, of the world around us, and of the Truth, a theme explored in our winning YouTube contest video. There comes a day for each of us when we suddenly begin to see a bigger picture, which then grows with every passing day and new experience. unASLEEP shows how this new seeing reveals that we are both the Web and the Weaver, leading to a deeper sense of compassion.

Please share it widely with friends!

Love Breath

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

There is a way of breathing
that’s a shame and suffocation.
And there’s another way of expiring,
a love-breath that lets you open infinitely.
– Rumi

How are you breathing, thinking, feeling today that is shaping your world?

Present moment awareness within a “love-breath” can help you move through your day with more peace, stillness and joy than you may create otherwise.

The Time is now!

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

It does seem that there could not be a better time or better reasons to explore inner healing and moving into higher states of awareness than the current world situation. We have had many prophecies concerning this time frame in history. If we go beyond the hype and hysteria to the deeper wisdom available to us in some of these messages then the way through this time is clear.  The way that is being pointed to is one where we begin to take seriously the notion that the world is a mirror of our inner state and that we are all part of the cosmic whole and affect each other. This is a powerful beginning thought but it is not the end of the message. We are also counseled that it is through developing the skills greater awareness and moving into higher levels of consciousness and creativity that our problems, personal and global, will be solved.   Humanity has been through many difficult and challenging periods throughout history. This is ours. It is hard. It is difficult. It is frightening in the extreme perhaps. But one thing that keeps coming to mind is that fact that we are still here after many challenges that were extreme for those who came before us.  There are perhaps some elements of the past that can be looked at for information regarding change and methods to restore balance. However there are many unique issues and circumstances facing us in these current times. So change may have to take on a new face. We may need skills and abilities that were not necessary or even present in the past. The good news is that they are available to us in the realm of higher consciousness and creativity. Once again we have a model from nature also to guide us. When something is not present in nature that is needed, organisms adapt and transform in order to acclimate to their new environment. And so it is with us. The question seems not whether we will or not, the question may be more one of how much struggle and conflict will we go through before we shift toward what is necessary. Politicians and government may not be the greatest change agents in these times. It may be “We the people”. If that phrase sounds familiar, maybe it’s because there was an original intent for this country set up by men of a transcendental persuasion. Another man who had a message we can all use now was Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.    Perhaps it is time to take that sentence seriously and to each do our part in our corner of the planet to bring about healthy, positive change.  Gratitude is a major theme as this month carries us into Thanksgiving. Gratitude for what? For being alive. For living at all! Gratitude for the Earth, the ocean and mountains. Gratitude for all that nature shows us each and every day about life and living. Gratitude that we can begin to listen with new ears and see with new eyes. Gratitude that we indeed can become the change we wish to see in the world.

What If….?

To say that  the last couple of weeks have been life changing would of course be an understatement of gargantuan proportions. (Anyone remember Ayn Rand?)

As I have moved through this time myself and also listened to many different people and reactions, it has given me a lot of pause for thought about how we can make sense of things and remain upright and not  completely freaked out, numb or hopeless!

There are those who have been saying that this was inevitable–modern American life coming to collapse. These same people suggest that perhaps we are learning to adjust ourselves and our course to rest on a new (really new not pretend new!) sense of power and values.

I think that these thoughts/beliefs are a good place to begin to right ourselves. If nothing else—you will feel better! But I suspect that there will be more than a simple shift to feeling better if we all heed the opportunity to respond from a place of creativity and power in our own lives–in each moment —which after-all is all we have ever really had—the rest has been various forms of illusions.

 What if….

You took this time to learn to ground your energy so you might feel safer, more secure and relaxed just on the merit of your own power and not look outside yourself for sustenance or security? We need each other certainly but we also need to turn within to find out what is good, true and possible. It strengthens us to learn we can self soothe and feel peaceful even in the face of enormous stress.

Maybe we are being forced to learn that we can do this as a result of all our false beliefs about what constitutes safety/belonging/power/abundance falling away.

What if…

You took this time as an invitation to practice centering in the heart and expanding love so you did not so easily spin off in fear?

It may be that as we learn to live more from the heart—from a place that values others and embodies an inner integrity and wholeness–we may just create new relationships, ways of doing business and honor our planet.

What if…

You rose to the challenge of taking stock of your life and how you have been living it and made whatever changes were necessary to put into place a  new foundation that serves you and those around you well?Could this be a time to to rework what is not working and be able to step into an inspired place and creatively design a life built on higher truth?

I much prefer the feeling I get when I think of this time as an invitation to use universal principles to bring change about in our world to hopelessness or powerlessness. I like to think that this is a time of intense learning that will help us all to grow, to change and to leave behind all that does not serve us. I like the sense that we are powerful, resilient spiritual beings with the ability to create anew when things go bad. I like to feel that we can rise to enormous challenges just as so many others in the world have in tough times and  bring forward what is good and right for our personal worlds and for the planet upon which we live. These thoughts and feelings make me feel energy course through my being.

I do not believe that this is the end of the world as so many fear. I do believe it may be the end of the world as we have known it however.  And that may not be such a bad thing. If we are conscious and open to expanding our minds and stretching our creative capacity, perhaps it can be a “Brave New World”after all! Namaste’, Karen

Shifting Perspective

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

A shift in perspective can be a powerful aid in opening up energy in order to move out of a “stuck place”. Here’s a story that recently came to me that demonstrates both how perspective can trap us and how it can release us.

One day the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”

“It was great, Dad.”

“Did you see how poor people live?” the father asked.

“Oh yeah,” said the son.

“So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?” asked the father.

The son answered:
“I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.”
The boy’s father was speechless.
Then his son added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.”

Isn’t perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don’t have.

In what ways can you shift your perspective today?

Happy Wednesday!

Attention

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

We have the power to place our attention where we desire.

Where does your attention routinely go?

How many of your thoughts and feelings (the power of your psychic energy) were placed today on that which brings you and those around you joy?

How will you attend to this great inner power tomorrow?

Moment to moment allow yourself to softly fall into gentler states of mind. Mind mastery grows with each choice to quietly step into a stream of higher awareness.

Allow Your Unique Energy to Flow!

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time,
this expression is unique. If you block it, it will
never exist through any other medium and be
lost. The world will not have it.

It is not your business to determine how good
it is; nor how valuable it is; nor how it compares
with other expressions. It is your business to
keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the
channel open.

You do not even have to believe in yourself or
your work. You have to keep open and aware
directly to the urges that motivate *you*.
Keep the channel open . . .

No artist is pleased . . .
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.
There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction;
a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and
makes us more alive than the others.”

Allowing Possibility

“In the measurement world, we set a goal and strive to achieve it. In the universe of possibility, we set the context and let life unfold.”
